A Brief History of the Evolution of Ransom Oaks

  • April 30 1972 encompassed the area along Old Oak Post Road from Dodge Road through the original Woodgate area and out to New Road.  It included the courts and cul-de-sacs along Old Oak Post and some of Ransom Oaks Drive toward the east.
  • March of 1973 the 188 townhouses in CharlesgateVillage were included in Ransom Oaks.
  • May of 1974 155 townhouses in Forest Edge and 92 single family homes in the Hunter’s Woods area were created.  Hunter’s Woods includes the remainder of Ransom Oaks Drive, Glen Oaks Drive up to Ransom Creek, and associated courts and cul-de-sacs. The Greenwoods Recreation Area (called Parkside at that time) and the Ransom Oaks Recreation Area (called Edgefield at that time) were also constructed.  Later that year the Bramhill multiuse facility (called Orchard Grove Recreation Area) was added.
  • The 124 units in the Glen Oaks Condominiums were created in June of 1976 (called Chestnut Grove at the time).  Then in December of 1976 Hunter’s Woods East began. This area of 95 single family homes extended Glen Oak Dive across Ransom Creek to Smith Road and included Primrose Lane, Eveningwood Lane, and adjacent courts and cul-de-sacs.  It also included the Eveningwood Lane Recreation area.
  • December of 1977, FairwayHeights, consisting of White Cedar Drive and Whispering Court were added.  This area consists of 63 single family homes.
  • May of 1979, Hickory Creek, and area of 142 single family homes north of Smith Road became part of Ransom Oaks.
